Shield Guide

Welcome to the Operator Mod . In this guide you will find information about the tactical class, the Shield Operator .

I will be going through the ins and outs of the class and the importance of support in game play

Shield Operators

The Shield Itself

This information is VERY IMPORTANT:

  • The shield is technically attached to your torso. This doesn’t seem important at all until you realize how turning effects the shield.
  • When turning your character, you are given a certain degree radiant ( think of it like a sector of a circle) to which your head turns and not your body.
  • This means you could be looking directly North with your body/shield facing North as well, then turn to your side for a couple of degrees and your shield would be still facing North but you would be facing slightly off.
  • Once your aim reaches this threshold, your shield will then turn to face where your head is looking. This could cause some confusing situations about weather or not you were actually in cover or not.

The Basics

The Shield Operator is powerful (albeit all you have is your sidearm and grenades) what you lack in firepower you stride in cover and support

The class limits your weapon selection down to the sidearm of your choice, luckily you have a range of pistols to choose from.

You still need to choose your armor plate and helmet like other classes, unfortunately you do not have access to limb kevlar as you would be over encumbered.

DO NOT REMOVE THE BALLISTIC SHIELD IN YOUR KIT your shield will not work/block bullets without it

As you are one handing a ballistic shield, you will be unable to aim down your pistol sights so a Laser sight is highly recommended for mid-long range combat

As a Shield Operator you should always be crouching, it provides the most cover with only your feet and arm uncovered.

Your crouch walking speed is synced up to your teammates walking speed while aiming down sights, allowing you to move tactically as a unit.

Movement

You will be the pointman most of the time so allow your teammates to stack up on you and proceed through your mission.

While crouch walking your feet and lower legs are visible, make sure your teammates have you covered while moving.

Strafe Bug

The strafe bug only happens when you strafe left while crouching. For some reason your character exposes himself to incoming fire. Try to minimize the amount of left strafing you do while crouched.

Combat

Well you just intercepted some hostiles, what do you do from a combat standpoint?

  • As you are limited to your sidearm, it is best to aim for less armored targets with pistol calibers weather it being a hostile with no helmet or one with no limb Kevlar.
  • Obviously its highly inaccurate to fire while moving however with the accuracy rework done and the fact you can only hip fire, be stationary when firing at targets.
  • If a grenade or incendiary grenade land by your feet DON’T PANIC just back up a few feet and your shield will have a high percentage chance to absorb the blast damage
P.S. you may want to communicate with your squad about said grenade BEFORE they explode as this ensures a higher life expectancy
  • If you have teamed up in a squad, you will be the eyes and ears. Communicate on hostiles, doorways or tactics to ensure a tactical game
  • Communicate with your squad. They will protect your flank as you will be drawing fire away from the front of the squad.
  • As you will be crouching to provide the best cover, your teammates can shoot over your head to take down any targets ahead.

Useful Tips

Try to stay crouched unless you need to cover a lot of ground in a short time

  1. Communication is Key
  2. Remember the rough angle that allows you to aim without turning your shield
  3. Stay cool and collected, no need to panic
  4. DON’T REMOVE THE BALLISTIC SHIELD IN YOUR KIT
  5. Hold at doorways, allow your teammates to peak, seek and clear
  6. Laser sights are a must if you want to accurately take down hostiles

In Conclusion

That was an overview of the Shield Operator class. I will be making a guide on equipment loads, i.e:Pistol selection, grenade utility and armor loads just to add that bit of extra originality to your setups.
